Bowen, Forsyth: Altvioolconcerten (2007)/ Lawrence Power

Lawrence Power speelt op 10 oktober 2009 met het Amsterdam Sinfonietta in het Muziekcentrum, Enschede. Hij speelt dan overigens geen werken van deze CD, maar hij oogstte veel lof met het ontsluiten van werken van minder bekende Britse componisten als Bowen en Forsyth. ClassicsToday beloonde deze CD met twee tienen: "Both of these concertos were written in the first decade of the last century for Lionel Tertis, the great British violist, and both are quite marvelous. The more conservative and marginally earlier of the two (1904 as opposed to 1908) is Cecil Forsyth's, recalling Bruch and Dvorák. It's excellently orchestrated and finely written for the soloist. Lawrence Power brings plenty of energy and character to the solo part. Anyone familiar with York Bowen's piano and chamber music will not be surprised by the excellence of his Viola Concerto, even though he was only 24 when he wrote it. The style is closer to that of Bax and Bantock, with a shimmer of impressionism here and there." (David Hurwitz)
