Live At Shepherd's Bush (DVD + CD) (2009)

In the fall of 2008, Stephen Stills played a career-spanning concert at Shepherd's Bush captured for this CD/DVD set. Playing both solo-acoustic and full band sets, Stills touched on nearly every facet of his prolific career: Buffalo Springfield ("Bluebird," "For What It's Worth," "Rock & Roll Woman"); CSN ("Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,"); early solo ("Love The One You're With,"); Manassas (Isn't It About Time"); Stills/Young and later solo ("Treetop Flyer, "Wounded World"). Other highlights include covers of Bob Dylan's "Girl From The North Country" and Tom Petty's "The Wrong Thing To Do". Stills' stem is door de jaren heen rauwer en rauwer geworden. Als je 'm in de inleiding hoort praten hou je je hart vast: vooral het CSN-materiaal vraagt om een loepzuivere zangstijl. Gelukkig weet hij al zingend nog steeds te overtuigen - met een stem die vooral veel zeggingskracht heeft. En dat geldt ook voor zijn gitaarwerk, met name elektrisch: zijn vuige soli zijn partij voor die van oude maat Neil Young.
