Jazz keyboard player Chick Corea's Return to Forever emerged as one of the key jazz-rock fusion bands of the 1970s. Like Weather Report and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, they were formed by an alumnus of Miles Davis' late-'60s bands with the intention of furthering the jazz-rock hybrid Davis had explored on albums like Bitches Brew. "The final Return to Forever album, by Chick Corea's third group to use that name, is a massive four-LP box set that documents a complete concert. This band, in addition to the keyboards of Chick Corea, featured electric bassist Stanley Clarke and singer Gayle Moran plus the reeds of Joe Farrell, drummer Gerry Brown and a five-piece brass section. The music is generally pretty jazz-oriented with extended versions of such songs as "The Musician," "So Long Mickey Mouse," "Musicmagic" and "Spanish Fantasy" along with a piano/bass duet encore version of "On Green Dolphin Street." Worth searching for." (Scott Yanow, Allmusic)
