"De National Gallery in Londen herbergde in 2013 een unieke tentoonstelling. Centraal stonden de schilderijen van Vermeer en in het bijzonder die waarop muziekinstrumenten zijn te zien. Een geliefd thema in de Gouden Eeuw, en het is meer dan toepasselijk dat Virgin Classics op basis van de schilderijen, instrumenten en oude liedboeken die tentoongesteld worden een compilatie heeft samengesteld met muziek van vooral William Byrd en John Dowland, op authentieke instrumenten uitgevoerd door Fretwork. Zeker in combinatie met de catalogus van de tentoonstelling zeer indrukwekkend." (Platomania) De catalogus van de tentoonstelling is ingesloten in dit fraaie digibook: miniatuurweergaven van de schilderijen, met de beschrijvingen ernaast. De CD's bevatten opnamen uit het Virgin Classics-archief van het ensemble Fretwork: muziek van afwisselend Dowland en Byrd.
