Chants des Pays Basques & Chants d'Auvergne (1998)

Canteloube componeerde en arrangeerde tientallen volksliedjes van de plattelandsbevolking. Je zou hem vanwege zijn liefde voor de folklore van zijn gebied kunnen vergelijken met zijn tijdgenoten en collegas, de Hongaarse componisten Bartók en Kodály die in de Balkan naar het platteland afreisden om volksmuziek te verzamelen. Chants d'Auvergne is zijn populairste compositie, maar hij componeerde ook Chants des Pays Basques. "Bayo has the advantage of clearly understanding the dialects she is singing, her voice is rich throughout its range, and the recording is good, with the orchestral sound full without overwhelming the voice. Admirers of Victoria de los Angeles, Arleen Auger, Frederica von Stade and Dawn Upshaw may not wish to look further, but this new recording certainly has its own appeal." (Gramophone)
