Le grand tango (1999)

Werken van Latijns- en Zuid-Amerikaanse componisten voor cello en piano, of gearrangeerd voor cello en piano. De Mexicaanse cellist en auteur Carlos Prieto trad overal ter wereld met succes op. Hij promootte de hedendaagse instrumentale muziek van Latijns-Amerikaabse componisten en speelde premières van meer dan vijftig werken voor cello. The New York Times over zijn debuut in Carnegie Hall: "Prieto knows no technical limitations and his musical instincts are impeccable." Prieto was jarenlang bevriend met Stravinsky en kende ook Sjostakovitsj. Le Grand Tango, Spanish El gran tango, single-movement piece for cello and piano by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla that expresses the spirit of nuevo tango (new tango), a melding of traditional tango rhythms and jazz-inspired syncopation.
