"Bizet’s solo piano music is rarely encountered in the concert hall. Bizet wrote no concerto or sonata, most of his keyboard output being short, melodic charmers. Roberto Prosseda brings out the allure and lively wit of these early works, but the centrepiece of this and any other Bizet piano collection consists of the six little tone poems that make up Chants du Rhin (1865) and the Variations chromatiques (1868), his most adventurous piano work. All in all, this is a highly recommendable, varied selection from Bizet’s under-valued oeuvre with few duds included, and played by a master stylist." (Gramophone)
