Bijvoorbeeld de rompslomp die een verhuizing met zich meebrengt. Vanwege de liefde verhuisde de Brabander naar Gent. "Ik Hou Jou" is een vrolijke ode aan de liefde en "Mea Culpa" een ontroerende schuldbekentenis. "Loreena McKennitt trapte in maart '24 in Muziekgebouw Eindhoven een Europese tour ter ere van haar doorbraakalbum "The Visit" (1991) af. De show werd afgesloten met "Wild Mountain Thyme", waarbij de Canadese zangeres, harpist en pianist het publiek opriep om mee te zingen. McKennit is gewend in eigen land "Wild Mountain Thyme" uit honderden kelen tegelijk te horen galmen. Dat gebeurde in de zomer van 2023, toen ze op vier folkfestivals in Ontario speelde. De opnames daarvan resulteren in "The Road Back Home", een live-plaat die de new age-icoon zelf omschrijft als 'field recordings'. Klinkt toch net iets interessanter, en toegegeven: dit album bewijst niet alleen andermaal hoe goed McKennitt live nog altijd is, maar heeft ook meerwaarde door vooral songs te bieden die ze niet eerder op plaat ving. Een naam die ze overigens eer aandoet met een prachtige stem. Kanté, who was known as a distinguished player of the kora, released his debut solo album ‘Courougnegne’ in 1981 after stints in the Rail Band, Les Ambassadeurs and Les Milieus Branches. Kanté helped popularise African and Guinean music around the world in the 1980s, and was widely known for his house music-inspired 1987 single ‘Yéké Yéké’, which went on to become a hit in countries across Europe the following year.Some of the Guinean musician’s other notable albums include ‘Mory Kanté a Paris’ (1984), ‘Akwaba Beach’ (1987), ‘Touma’ (1990) and ‘Nongo Village’ (1993). "Diya" by Dody Satya Ekagustdiman is more technically experimental, using new instruments and common objects like sandpaper and motorcycle helmets to create a modern gamelan next to the more traditional drums, gongs and strings. The use of multi-tracking for the chorus adds new dimensions and textures. Even more into the technological frontier is "Asmat Dream." Composer Harry Roseli generated a wholly electronic landscape of tape looped crickets, keyboard sounds and sampled voices. Born Margaret Cleary in Cork into a family of Travellers and street singers, she taught herself how to play the zither banjo and the fiddle at a young age. At the age of sixteen, after a family disagreement, Margaret left home and started performing as a street musician. In the early 1950s, she moved to London, originally to appear on a TV series called The Songhunter, produced by a young David Attenborough. Attenborough described in recent years how Barry’s striking wild, toothless appearance and her out-of-tune banjo playing prompted a volley of angry complaints about Irish tinkers being allowed on the TV. Barry became a well-known name on the London folk scene in the 1950s where, with her distinctive singing style and idiosyncratic banjo accompaniment, she was frequently accompanied by the fiddler Michael Gorman. Her singing and banjo playing became a major influence on the younger generation of ballad singers in Ireland and the UK, including Luke Kelly. (Muziekweb)

"By their fifth album, Peter, Paul & Mary had fallen into a consistency of approach that could be viewed as either dependable or predictable. This had the usual assortment of traditional songs ("Motherless Child," "The Cuckoo"), songs that had first gained an audience during prior folk revivals ("Wasn't That a Time"), a bit of original material, mediocre blues ("San Francisco Bay Blues" and Paul Stookey's "Talkin' Candy Bar Blues"), and a Bob Dylan song ("When the Ship Comes In"). The biggest find, material-wise, was the Gordon Lightfoot composition "For Lovin' Me" (a #30 hit single), which gave the Canadian songwriter (who had yet to release his first United Artists LP) some of his first wide exposure in the United States. Overall, the trio's sound and balance of repertoire had still changed little, if at all, from their debut. They were at their best on folk tunes with sad melodies and harmonies, as on "Jimmy Whalen" and "Ballad of Spring Hill." (Allmusic)
