For the lack of gold’, ’The lass of Locroyan’ and Rosslin castle’: these are just a few of the colourful titles on this album. They are among the 60 or so arrangements by Joseph Haydn and part of an amazing 400 folksongs from his pen. They consist of Scottish, Welsh and Irish songs. In collaboration with (among others) Glasgow University and the Haydn Institut Köln, performers Lorna Anderson, Jamie MacDougall and the Haydn Trio Eisenstad are undertaking a unique project to record all of Haydn’s folksong arrangements. This fourth volume is taken up by the arrangements of Scottish folksongs written for William Whyte. He was one of the three publishers for whom Haydn composed his folksong arrangements.The first three volumes of the series being dedicated to songs ordered by one of the others, George Tomson. Charlotte Margiono studeerde zang bij Aafje Heynis aan het Arnhems conservatorium. In 1984 debuteerde ze bij De Nederlandse Opera als bloemenmeisje in Parsifal. In 1988 brak ze internationaal door toen ze op het muziekfestival van Aix-en-Provence de rol van Vitellia zong in Mozarts La clemenza di Tito. Het was het begin van een internationale carrière waarin ze grote bekendheid verwierf als lyrisch sopraan in vele rollen. Ze werkte samen met dirigenten als Claudio Abbado, Gerd Albrecht, Frans Brüggen, Andrew Davis, John Eliot Gardiner, Hartmut Haenchen, Bernard Haitink, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Carlo Maria Giulini, Kenneth Montgomery, Franz Welser-Möst, James Judd, Wolfgang Sawallisch en Edo de Waart. Daarnaast gaf ze concerten met symfonisch en liedrepertoire met het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, de Berliner Philharmoniker en Hamburger Philharmoniker, het Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest, l'Orchestre de Bordeaux, Minnesota Symphony en het orkest van Santa Cecilia di Roma. Bryn Terfel, CBE (Pantglas, Wales, 9 november 1965) is een bekend hedendaags Welsh opera- en concertzanger. De bas-bariton wordt bewonderd om zowel zijn zangkwaliteiten als zijn charismatische aanwezigheid op het toneel. Aanvankelijk werd Terfel het meest geassocieerd met zijn rollen in Mozart-producties, in het bijzonder met Leporello, maar hij heeft zijn repertoire inmiddels uitgebreid met zwaardere rollen zoals die van Wagner. Rhys Meirion is een Welshe opera- en klassieke tenorzanger. Hij werd geboren op 24 februari 1966 in Blaenau Ffestiniog, Gwynedd. Hij trad in 1999 in dienst bij de English National Opera en werd van 2001 tot 2004 bedrijfsleider. Hij zong ook hoofdrollen bij Oper Frankfurt, West Australian Opera en Opera Australia. Zijn album Benedictus met bas-bariton Bryn Terfel werd in 2006 genomineerd voor een Classical Brit Award.|
