The crowd response is natural and lively as they sing the “whoo-whoo-whoo”s on the chorus. Isbell’s stories generally concern blue collar working class aspirations and frustrations, concepts he clearly understands firsthand. A closing version of Neil Young’s “Like a Hurricane” provides a chance to rock out on guitar as Isbell pays tribute to one of his most obvious influences. "Je zou het op het eerste gehoor niet denken, maar de rootsrock van Voltage komt uit Noord-Brabant, regio Helmond en Eindhoven. Voltage speelt warme, emotionele en soms stevig rammende southern rock, in de traditie van ZZ Top en latere exponenten als The Black Crowes. De band rond zanger Dave Vermeulen en gitarist Ruard Sanders, die samen aan de songs schreven, is al jaren geliefd in het kleinere clubcircuit. Ook met "Fortunes & Willows" brengen ze weer een gevarieerd overzicht van hun eigen kunnen op plaat. De knauwende stem van Vermeulen, vaak opgenomen met gloeiende achtergrondzang, doet het goed in de schommelende gitaarballade "The Last Light". De lichte neiging tot steenkolenengels is "Voltage" hier vergeven.
