Garfield Akers is about the most famous, which tells you right there how obscure most of these names -- King Solomon Hill, Otto Virgial, Mattie Delaney, Joe Calicott, Blind Joe Reynolds, John D. Fox and others -- are to the general listening public. It's quality material, however, and not in a drastically different league than the most renowned classics by singers like Tommy Johnson and Son House. The guitar playing and singing are emotional and inventive throughout, but standouts include Mattie Delaney, Elvie Thomas and Geeshie Wiley, some of the relatively few guitar-playing Delta blueswomen who recorded; Wiley's minor-key, doomy "Last Kind Words" is particularly affecting." Op 17 april 2015 komt ie weer naar De Buren in Boekelo, i.h.k.v. zijn jaarlijkse optreden voor de Folkclub Twente. Voor de al jaren in Oostenrijk woonachtige Theessink is dat een terugkeer naar zijn geboortegrond. Vlak ervoor verscheen dit live-album, met een vrijwel even intiem concert als bij de Folkclub. Verschil is dat hij op deze CD een duo vormt met Terry Evans. Met deze Amerikaanse soulzanger werkte Theessink al vaak samen en hij is ook te horen op enkele van de meest geliefde albums van Ry Cooder (zo maakte hij deel uit van diens Chicken Skin Band, waarmee Cooder americana-avant-la-lettre speelde). 't Is een mooi complementair stel: de donkere, soms wat brommende bariton van Theessink is alleen (we durven het bijna niet te zeggen) misschien ietwat saai; de doorleefde soultenor van Terry Evans geeft met wat snerende zanglijnen hier en daar flink wat sjeu. Beiden hanteren ze een akoestische gitaar ter begeleiding. Het repertoire bestaat vooral uit folkbluesklassiekers en daarop geïnspireerd materiaal.
