Tu Inmenso Amor (1987)

"One of the most prominent Latin-born performers of the pop era, singer/guitarist Jose Feliciano was born September 10, 1945, in Lares, Puerto Rico; the victim of congenital glaucoma, he was left permanently blind at birth. n 1969 Feliciano recorded three LPs and won a Grammy for Best New Artist; however, he never again equalled the success of "Light My Fire," and only the theme song to the sitcom Chico and the Man subsequently achieved hit status, edging into the Top 100 singles chart in 1974. Throughout the 1970s Feliciano remained an active performer. In 1980 Feliciano was the first performer signed to the new Latin division of Motown, making his label debut with an eponymous effort the following year; his recorded output tapered off during the course of the decade, although he occasionally resurfaced with LPs including 1987's Tu Immenso Amor and 1989's I'm Never Gonna Change. In 1996, he also appeared briefly in the hit film Fargo." (Allmusic)

Souled ; For my love... mother music (2015)

Koppeling, door het heruitgavenlabel BGO, van twee relatief soul-getinte albums uit het oeuvre van de Puerto-Ricaanse zanger. De album verschenen oorspronkelijk in 1968 resp. 1974. Allmusic over "For My Love... Mother Music": "Produced and arranged in collaboration with the renowned Stax guitarist Steve Cropper, this album remains one of José Feliciano's most soulful and appealing LPs, moving seamlessly between earthy, Memphis-flavored Latin-funk and sun-kissed L.A. grooves. Credit also a winningly eclectic batch of songs that includes a brooding rendition of Stevie Wonder's "Blame It On The Sun" and a lithe, knowing version of Steely Dan's "Dirty Work." Cropper's presence also seems to push Feliciano to new peaks as a guitarist: the virtuoso "The Gypsy" is stunning." (Jason Ankeny)

That the spirit needs ; Memphis menu ; Compartments (1971)

2CD waarop 3 LP's uit resp. 1971, 1972 en 1974 zijn samengevoegd. \n"Arriving after the hit single "Feliz Navidad" (1970), these 3 albums offer a better reflection of what Feliciano was doing musically at the dawn of the '70s. On "That the Spirit Needs", he was deep in thrall to early Elton John - he covers "Border Song" and "Take Me To The Pilot," while his original "Come Down Jesus" is in John/Taupin vein -- and on "Memphis Menu" he concocts his own version of Van Morrison's "Moondance". He splits the difference on "Compartments", running the echoes of artiness and soul, while indulging in some serious funkiness on Allen Toussaint's "Yes We Can Can." The latter two records were helmed by Steve Cropper, who deserves credit for steering Feliciano away from his late 60's MOR tendencies. Combined, these albums offer a corrective to the popular notion that Feliciano was merely an easy listening singer; here, he shows that he can get deeper and lighter with equal skill." (S.T.
