Memorizing Gustav Leonhardt who passed on Januari 16, 2012, Sony re-releases the Jubilee Edition of 2008. Gustav Leonhardt was one of the most important harpsichord- and organ-players of the world and a very well-known specialist for baroque music. This edition contains a representative selection of his numerous recordings including famous solo recordings such as the legendary Goldberg Variations or Bach organ and harpsichord works. But also 6 CDs with his famous colleages Sigiswald Kuijken, Frans Brüggen and Anner Bylsma and Harry van der Kamp. (bron: Sony Classical)
François de Bedos de Celles, described as a "monk of notable erudition," was also a highly trained and supremely talented builder of organs in eighteenth century France. The greatest of his organs was Dom Bedos, built for the abbey of Saint-Croix in Bordeaux -- a glorious instrument with rich blends and subtle colors, with nuanced balances and stark contrasts, with whispering pianissimos and roaring fortissimos. Leonhardt's chosen program opens with the organ extracts from F. Couperin's Messe propre pour les couvents, deeply devout music that Leonhardt performs with absolute command and complete dedication. The remainder of the program is a collection of works by better- and lesser-known composers, ranging from three Voluntaries by J. Blow and two Toccatas by G. Muffat to a Fantasia by A. van den Kerchkoven and a Chaconne by J.C.F. Fischer, but Leonhardt performs all of them with total commitment and rapturous ecstasy. Deze cd herinnert aan een vergeten deel van Gustav Leonhardts omvangrijke discografie. Het gaat hier om één van drie uitgaven op het kleine label Cambridge Records in Boston. Van deze opnamen zijn maar weinig platen verspreid in de Verenigde Staten. Behalve deze uitgave met Elizabethaanse klaviermuziek (orgel) ging het om opnamen met Sweelinck (orgel, klavecimbel) en Froberger (orgel, klavecimbel). De Elizabethaanse klaviermuziek (opname 1962) werd gemaakt in de Grote Kerk in Zwolle, gespeeld op het orgel van de familie Schnitger. De opnamebanden zijn verloren gegaan. Voor de digitalisering maakte Leonhardts leerling Skip Sempé gebruik van een lp die nog in een zeldzaam goede staat was. Ook qua repertoire is deze uitgave bijzonder. Slechts drie van de 11 composities zijn later door Leonhardt opnieuw opgenomen. (HJ)|
