"This album is from a pivotal moment in McLaughlin's history. This was just after he left Miles Davis' group, but before Mahavishnu Orchestra started, and the music captures this perfectly. McLaughlin's technique had not progressed to "Mahavishnu" perfection yet, but the music has that rock drive. It all grew out of sessions featuring McLaughlin and Larry Young jamming with Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Miles (and Billy Rich on bass). None of that material with Hendrix is officially released, but "Devotion" is arguably one of the finest acid rock albums ever. McLaughlin is on fire, using fuzzboxes and phasers, over Larry Young's swirling Hammond B-3, with Billy Rich and Buddy Miles as the rock-solid rhythm section. If you dig McLaughlin's solo at the end of "Right Off" (from "A Tribute to Jack Johnson"), then this is the album for you. Helaas geen complete concertregistratie, maar een documentaire over het kortstondige bestaan van The Band Of Gypsies middels divers archiefmateriaal en nieuwe interviews met betrokkenen, waaronder origineel lid Billy Cox. Uiteindelijk zijn er vijf songs compleet te zien, waaronder de beroemde, bijna twintig minuten lange versie van "Machine Gun" en "Stepping Stone".
Concertopnamen en meer van de voormalige drummer van Jimi Hendrix, die tevens een powervolle soul/rock-zanger was. Was, want helaas overleed in in 2008 op 60-jarige leeftijd. De hoofdmoot is een optreden in Zwitserland tijdens een Hendrix-tribute in 1995, waar Miles aantrad met een powertrio met gitarist Kevin Smith en bassist Joe Thomas. Natuurlijk staan er Hendrix-nummers op de setlist, maar ook een aantal eigen nummers en soulklassiekers van o.a. Stevie Wonder en Eddie Floyd. Miles speelt ze met veel bravoure: het resultaat gaat soms een aardig eind in de richting van de sound van Mother's Finest. De CD bevat highlights van datzelfde optreden. Verder zijn er een jaar later opnamen gemaakt in Parijs tijdens de New Morning 15th Anniversary Celebration, waar hij te zien is met een zeskoppige band. Dan is er een 30 minuten lange documentaire over de man, inclusief interview.
