"Wolfgang Haffner is Europe’s top jazz drummer. Unlike some band-leading drummers, he doesn’t treat every number as his personal showcase. He’s a musician first. This double album was recorded on tour late last year, and I can well believe that the other six players – three German, two American and one Swedish – really do constitute Haffner’s Dream Band. There’s always something uplifting about the sound of a small band bursting into an ensemble passage with all the accuracy and fire of a big band. And there’s a wealth of individuality in the solos. I loved Nat Adderley’s tune Sweet Emma, with Randy Brecker (trumpet), Bill Evans (tenor saxophone) and Nils Landgren (trombone) taking turns while Haffner quietly stokes up the rhythm behind them. It’s modern but timeless too. As I played through these 20 tracks, I felt certain that what made the whole thing seem so natural and groovy was Haffner himself, his wonderful keyboard man Simon Oslender, and bassist Thomas Stieger. "One of trombonist Nils Landgren's early inspirations was Cannonball Adderley's group. Paint It Blue is dedicated to Adderley with Landgren performing five songs associated with the altoist plus seven originals that pay tribute to Cannonball's bands. Some of the music is in the soul-jazz vein while other tunes (particularly the originals) are more modern, even incorporating a little bit of rap in a couple places. Landgren is a fine trombonist (sometimes a little reminiscent of Wayne Henderson) and he manages to keep up with Michael and Randy Brecker, who in this situation are superior supportive soloists. Without merely copying the past, Landgren expands on the legacy of Adderley quite successfully." (Allmusic)

Het repertoire bestaat vooral uit stukken van drie essentiële Mingusalbums uit het jaar 1959: "Mingus Ah Um", "Mingus Dynasty" en "Blues & Roots". "Jazzy pop is te horen op de cd Oh! van de zanger/bassist Will Lee. Het is een verrassend en goed in het gehoor liggend album. De sfeer ademt de betere periode van Toto uit. Georgy Porgy is dan ook een Toto-nummer, herschapen door Lee met invloeden van Marvin Gaye erin verwerkt. Om zich heen heeft Lee voor Oh! prima blazers vergaard, o.a.: Lew Soloff (trompet), Randy Brecker (flügelhorn) en Bob Malach (tenorsaxofoon). Verder verleenden o.a. nog hun medewerking: Don Grolnick (piano/orgel), Bashiri Johnson (percussie) en Jeff Beck (gitaar). Onder de elf nummers op deze cd zijn songs opgenomen als Kissing My Love (Bill Withers), Driftin' (Jimi Hendrix) en My Funny Valentine (Rodgers & Hart). Mooie eigen songs zijn bijvoorbeeld I Know Too Much (About Sadness) (een song over de pijn van het verliezen van vrienden) en Ballad Of Bill And Gretchen (dit lied gaat over twee jongeren die vanaf de schooltijd al decennia bij elkaar zijn)." Two disc set featuring a CD of new studio recordings by Randy Brecker and The Brecker Brothers Band, plus a burning live set from the Blue Note Club on the DVD. The album is dedicated to Randy's brother Michael who died in 2007. In 2011 Randy and former members of the Brothers' studio and touring band reconvened for a week-long engagement at New York's Blue Note jazz club, which in turn led to them making new music in the studio. The band features David Sanborn, Mike Stern, Will Lee, Dave Weckl, George Whitty, Ada Rovatti, and others. The music includes killer versions of "Some Skunk Funk" and "Straphangin'," as well as a host of new Randy Brecker originals in the Brecker Brothers Band style. Jazz trumpeter and composer Randy Brecker has helped shape the sound of jazz, R&B and rock for more than four decades. Optreden uit 1982 met Pastorius' 'Word Of Mouth Small Band'. Hoewel de DVD slecht gedocumenteerd is, is de beeld- en geluidskwaliteit uitstekend (het wel is een major-labelrelease). Een mooie gelegenheid om Pastorius' bijzondere basgitaarspel te bewonderen, al treedt hij niet zo heel vaak op de voorgrond. Veel soloruimte wordt overgelaten aan Brecker (t), Mintzer (ts) en de virtuoze steeldrumcapriolen van Othello Molineaux.
