"Václavek's acoustic guitar and vocals are often enough to accompany Bittová's sensual (and very creative) vocals and violin playing. Tom Cora may add a bit of cello, Frantisek Kucera a touch of trumpet, or children some singalong lines. The songs are long, repetitive in a way similar to nursery rhymes. The mood is kept quiet, Bittová often whispering in our ears the words of lyricist Bohuslav Reynek. The childlike playfulness of "Kdoule" and "Moucha," the more defiant "Vzpominka," the overdubbed vocals at the end of "Zvon" -- all constitute highlights. Each song seems to be the result of a labor of love between the two protagonists, no detail having been left to chance. And yet, spontaneity permeates the album, mostly thanks to Bittová's many groans, shouts, yelps, and other strange exclamations and techniques she derives from Eastern European cultures and the playground". "So much has already been written about Iva Bittova, about her multi-genre music and talent. As the DVD title suggests, it reveals many sides of her ever-changing musical character. The DVD is divided into three parts. The first is an exceptional, ninety-minute concert with the New York-based contemporary music ensemble Bang On A Can All-Stars, performing repertoire from the collaborative album "Elida". However, the programme opened with Iva Bittová just voice, violin and solo magic performing material from her past and present. The DVDs second part is its selections from the Czech Television archives. Totalling some sixty minutes, this material captures Iva Bittova in varying incarnations and in a variety of projects rock, folk, folkloric and classical. The oldest footage is with the band Manana from 1984. Other performances include collaborations with the Czech string quartet, the Skampovo kvarteto (Skampa Quartet), the Czech band Dunaj, the Dutch group N.B.E. and Pavel Fajt." (Indies Scope)
Het Nederlands Blazers Ensemble is een orkest dat altijd zoekt naar interessante cross- over-uitdagingen. De Tsjechische stemkunstenares/violiste Iva Bittova is een wandelende vorm daarvan. Dit programma gaat over Tsjechische volksmuziek en de rol van Tsjechische componisten daarin.
Op 7 februari 2003 is de Tsjechische stemkunstenares en violiste in het Enschedese Muziekcentrum met het Nederlands Blazers Ensemble. De stukken op dit album, met een kwartet (trompet, akoestisch gitaar, bas, drum) hebben een geiproviseerd freejazz-karakter.
"De Tsjechische violiste/stemkunstenares, vooral befaamd om haar indrukwekkende solo-performances, maakt met collectief Bang On A Can, haar beste album tot nu toe. Waar eerdere partner als het NBE zich vooral voegden naar haar 'imaginaire folk', wist BOAC haar te verleiden tot zelfs voor háár ongehoorde crossovers. Tsjechische zangeres/stemkunstenares/violiste, hier stekelig, vrij en enigszins avant-gardistisch begeleid door drummer Fajt en occasionele gastmusici. In 2000 was ze een van de hoogtepunten op het Cross-linx festival, dit zijn opnamen uit 1987.
