2015 album by former member of legendary bands Buffalo Springfield and Poco. Hand In Hand finds that Richie back is to his Americana routes, as he was just elected into the Colorado Music Hall Of Fame. His new album (first in 8 years) features the lead single We Were The Dreamers, which takes the listener back to his days fronting Poco. The album also features Keb Mo, Neil Young and Kenny Loggins. "With producer Tom Dowd at the helm, the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band seemed to be distancing itself a bit from its country-rock roots with its second release. Here the band expands on the funkier aspects of its debut album, while at the same time slipping even closer to the middle of the road. On that record it was former Poco frontman Richie Furay who was responsible for the highlights, but this time out it's J.D. Souther, who penned four of the album's nine tracks, who leads the way, with "Prisoner in Disguise" (recorded that same year by Linda Ronstadt) and the title cut the standouts. Still, Furay, whose two compositions were dominated by his recent conversion to Christianity, does connect with the lovely "For Someone I Love," which interestingly enough precedes the sleazy rationalizations of Souther's "Mexico." Souther formed Longbranch Pennywhistle with Eagle Glenn Frey, as well penning tunes for artists like Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, and the Eagles. SHF's supporting cast also came with impressive credentials: Paul Harris on piano, Al Perkins (Flying Burrito Brothers, Manassas) on pedal steel guitar, and former Derek & the Dominos drummer Jim Gordon (who also wrote the piano piece that concludes "Layla"). Furay is een van de vormgevers van countryrock en softrock. In de jaren '60 zat hij met o.a. Stephen Stills en Neil Young bij Buffalo Springfield. Daarna richtte hij Poco op, waar ook Paul Cotton en het latere Eagles-lid Timothy B. Schmit deel van uitmaakten. Na de split van Poco werd Furay Christen. Iets wat al te merken was aan het repertoire van de Souther Hilmann Furay Band. Sinds de vroege jaren '80 maakte hij alleen een paar gospelalbums. Dit is z'n eerste seculiere album sinds "I Still Have Dreams" (1979) en de Poco-reunie uit 1990. "Heartbeat of Love" klinkt van de eerste tot de laatste noot als een verloren Poco-album, wat niet alleen door zijn kenmerkende fluwelen zang komt, maar ook door de medewerking van zowel Paul Cotton als Timothy B. Schmit. En alsof dat nog niet genoeg is verlenen ook Young, Stills, Kenny Loggins, Mark Volman (The Turtles, Flo & Eddie) en Sam Bush hun medewerking. Gouden tip derhalve voor Poco-liefhebbers. En daardoor ook voor Eagles- en Venice-fans.
