"Wilen gets more of a chance to stretch out and reveal his swinging, warm tenor tone; Jackson is quite competent as a comping accompanist and in fairly fluent, right-handed bop flurries. A mix of Django Reinhardt tunes and Charles Trénet chansons, a few tunes by Wilen, and the concluding Monk "Epistrophy" make up much of the program, which thoroughly dispels the sinking feeling left by the preceding film music". (Richard S. Ginell, Allmusic).

Flight To Jordan (1961)

Werd bekend als pianist bij Charlie Parker. Maakte ook erg veel soloplaten. "Duke Jordan, who played regularly with the Charlie Parker Quintet in 1947, has long been known as a superior bebop pianist whose style was touched by the genius of Bud Powell's innovations. This quintet album (which also features trumpeter Dizzy Reece and the young tenor Stanley Turrentine) gave Jordan an opportunity to record six of his originals and, although none became as well-known as his "Jordu," the music has plenty of strong melodies and variety. This is one of Duke Jordan's better recordings and is quite enjoyable. This is Blue Note's 2007 remastered CD reissue, that includes "Diamond Stud" and "I Should Care" as bonus tracks." Art Farmer Quintet featuring Gigi Gryce (1955)

"During 1955, trumpeter Art Farmer had a short-lived quintet with altoist Gigi Gryce, but because neither of the co-leaders were big names at the time, the band did not last long. Fortunately, they did record two albums of material, of which this CD reissue (originally known as "Evening in Casablanca") was the second. In addition to Farmer and Gryce, the unit includes pianist Duke Jordan, bassist Addison Farmer, and drummer Philly Joe Jones. With the exception of Duke Jordan's "Forecast," the cool-toned hard bop date consists entirely of Gryce compositions, of which "Evening in Casablanca" and "Nice's Tempo" are best known. Excellent music well deserving a close listen." (Scott Yanow, Allmusic)
