Tony Bennett Vol. 2: Seven Classic Albums (1962)

Zeven albums uit de periode 1960-1962 op 4 CD's. De albums komen uit een periode dat zangers als Bennett overvleugeld dreigden te worden, in ieder geval op commercieel gebied dan, door rock 'n' roll en doo wop. In 1962 was hij weer top of the bill, als gevolg van het ook hier te vinden album "I Left My Heart In San Francisco", bekend om zijn titelnummer. Allmusic daarover: "n 1962, Bennett introduced "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," a ballad written by two unknown songwriters, George Cory and Douglass Cross, who had pitched it to his pianist, Ralph Sharon. Released as a single, the song took time to catch on, and although it peaked only in the Top 20, it remained on one or the other of the national charts for almost nine months. It became Bennett's signature song and pushed his career to a higher level. The I Left My Heart in San Francisco album reached the Top Five and went gold, and the single won Bennett Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Solo Vocal Performance, Male."

Cheek To Cheek - Deluxe Edition (2014)

A collaborative album by American singers Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga. Bennett and Gaga fi rst met backstage in 2011 after the two performed at the Robin Hood Foundation gala in New York City, where Bennett asked Gaga to sing a duet with him. The two recorded a rendition of The Lady Is a Tramp, and began discussing plans for working on a jazz project. Cheek to Cheek consists of jazz standards by popular jazz composers like George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Jerome Kern and Irving Berlin. The album was inspired by Bennett and Gagas desire to introduce the songs to a younger generation, since they believed that the tracks had universal appeal. By January 2013, the album was confi rmed by both artists and recording started after Gaga recovered from her hip surgery. The recording sessions in New York City were accompanied by a live band and jazz musicians associated with both artists. The Complete Tony Bennett & Bill Evans Recordings (2009)

De zanger en de pianist maakten halverwege de jaren '70 twee duo-albums: "The Tony Bennett / Bill Evans Album" (1975) en "Together Again" (1976). Deze dubbel-CD-uitgave uit 2009 verenigt beide albums, aangevuld met een complete schijf vol 'alternate takes'. Voor mensen die Bennett associëren met gladde Las Vegas-showmuziek: hij laat hier horen een eersteklas jazz-vocalist te zijn. Gevoelvol, subtiel en met superieure frasering zingend. Evans, aartsvader van de klassiek-impressionistisch beïnvloede jazzpianoschool, begeleidt prachtig, romantisch, bedachtzaam, doch nooit te zwaar-op-de-hand. Love Is Here To Stay (2018)

"Tony Bennett and Diana Krall's partnership didn't begin with the 2018 duets album Love Is Here to Stay. Krall popped up on two prior duets albums from Bennett and the pair toured at the dawn of the 2000s, but Love Is Here to Stay marks their first full record together, and it's an elegant affair. Conceived as a tribute to George Gershwin, the album is filled with familiar tunes, but hints of imagination lurk around the edges, such as the revival of "Fascinating Rhythm," the tune Bennett recorded for his first single in 1949. Nearly 70 years separate that version of "Fascinating Rhythm" from this 2018 rendition, and while Bennett certainly sounds older -- his voice is slightly raspy, he can't hit the high notes the way he used to, nor does he sing with quite as much force -- he still sounds spry and commanding, happily dancing through these cozy melodies, singing with as much rhythm as lyricism. Krall responds in kind, trading staccato phrases that are slyly complementary to Bennett's own". (Allmusic)

Tony Bennett celebrates 90 The Deluxe edition (2016)

The first CD of this Deluxe set is a companion to the NBC prime-time special, "Tony Bennett Celebrates 90: The Best Is Yet To Come". The special was filmed in front of a live audience at Radio City Music Hall on September 15th and features performances by Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, Michael Bublé, Andrea Bocelli, Kevin Spacey, Tony Bennett himself and many others. Additionally, performances by Billy Joel and Elton John were taped at alternate locations. The CD also includes an extended 28-page booklet featuring appreciation essays contributed by President Bill Clinton, Martin Scorsese, Harry Belafonte, Johnny Mandel, Bill Charlap and Everett Raymond Kinstler. The two additional CDs feature rare and previously unreleased studio and live performance tracks of Tony's throughout his career. The set also includes a 28-page booklet with a comprehensive decade-by-decade account of Tony's life and career written by Will Friedwald.

Love For Sale; Cheek To Cheek Live! (2021)

"Al weer tien jaar geleden hoorde Tony Bennett, één van de beste vertolkers van het Great American Songbook, Lady Gaga de jazz standard Orange Colored Sky van Nat King Cole zingen. Daarna werd ze meteen uitgenodigd om een duet te zingen voor zijn succesvolle Duets II album. Die samenwerking beviel zo goed dat eind 2014 een compleet album van deze twee verscheen. Cheek To Cheek, zoals het album heette, krijgt nu een vervolg waarbij dit keer enkel voor nummers van Cole Porter is gekozen. Anything Goes van zijn hand stond al op het eerste album, maar er bleef natuurlijk meer dan genoeg topmateriaal over om uit te kiezen, zoals I Get A Kick Out Of You en Ive Got You Under My Skin. Tony Bennett heeft aangegeven dat dit album het laatste album is dat hij maakt omdat bij hem onlangs Alzheimer is geconstateerd. Dit bijzondere duo maakte verrassend genoeg niet alleen een heel album met elkaar ("Cheek To Cheek"), er volgde zelfs een live-optreden in Lincoln's Center, New York! De 11 songs van de standaardeditie van het album komen allemaal voorbij. Beiden brengen daarnaast 4 solo gezongen stukken. Het duo wordt begeleid door een 39-koppig orkest o.l.v. Jorge Calandrelli. Speciale gastoptredens zijn er van trompettist Chris Botti en saxofonist David Mann. Dit is nog maar een begin, want in juli 2015 is het duo ook live te aanschouwen op het North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam!

The Essential Tony Bennett - Limited Edition 3.0 (2008)

"Like most entries in Sony/Legacy's Essential series, 2002's The Essential Tony Bennett is an excellent, exhaustive retrospective of a lengthy, hit-filled career at Columbia. Although Bennett spent time at other labels -- particularly in the '70s -- he made his best-known and greatest recordings for Columbia, from the late '50s through the '90s, which is what provides the bulk of the material here. Though this skips through the '70s material, it does provide what amounts to Bennett at his best, whether it's on "Rags to Riches" and "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" in the '60s, or on latter-day classics like "Steppin' Out With My Baby." Bennett surely recorded more great material than can fit on a two-disc, 40-track collection, but this contains the cream of the crop and it's hard to imagine a collection like this being executed better than this. This Limited Edition 3.0 appeared in 2008 and included a bonus CD -- in addition to the original, two-CD set." (Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Allmusic)

Duets: An American Classic (2006)

Duettenalbum t.g.v. de 80ste verjaardag van de zanger, met Sinatra de grootste vertolker van show- en Great American Songbookrepertoire. Hier vertolkt hij die evergreens in duet met 19 jongere en ouder vocalisten, uiteenlopend van Paul McCartney tot John Legend, van Bono tot Juanes. Meest opvallende naam tussen deze in de Westerse wereld overbekende sterren is Leehom Wang. Deze zanger werd weliswaar in de VS geboren, maar heeft een Chinese achtergrond en is aldaar een grote ster met een crossover van Chinese en Westerse muziek. Nu begint hij in Amerika door te breken.
