This is the definitive collection of the bands greatest tracks from their very first recordings as The High Numbers right up to the present day with the brand new track "Be Lucky". This classic rock song is The Whos first new material in eight years. The track was produced by Dave Eringa, best known for his work with the Manic Street Preachers and Wilko Johnson + Roger Daltrey. Recorded at the end of the Summer at British Grove and Yellowfish Studios "Be Lucky" features long time Who live players Zak Starkey (drums) and Pino Palladino (bass) with the keyboards being provided by ex Style Council and Dexys sideman Mick Talbot. In keeping with their ongoing support for Teenage Cancer charities, the band have donated their royalties from the song to Teen Cancer America, a charity founded in 2011 by Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend.
In 2012/2013, The Who embarked on the Quadrophenia and More Tour, performing their landmark rock opera in its entirety, marking the 40th anniversary of the original 1973 release. The critically acclaimed and highly successful tour closed at Londons Wembley Arena, with the cameras rolling, to record the closing night of this historic tour. Filmed on July 8, 2013, this Blu-Ray features The Who in peak form, performing "Quadrophenia" plus a special set of some of their alltime greatest hits. The film captures the bands dynamic performance. With HD screen backdrops, archival footage and todays advanced technology in sound, the show reunites The Who with bandmates John Entwistle, for 5:15, and Keith Moon for his signature song Bell Boy. In addition, the band tear through classic tracks such as Pinball Wizard, You Better You Bet, Baba ORiley, Wont Get Fooled Again and Tea & Theatre, from their 2006 release "Endless Wire", with the intensity and power only The Who can conjure. 2de LP (uit '66) van toen nog rebelse Modband. Met de bizarre hit 'Boris The Spider' van John Entwistle.
"Driven by Pete Townshend's arching musical ambitions, "It's Hard" was an undistinguished final studio effort from the Who (natuurlijk is deze recensie geschreven vòòr het verschijnen van "Endless Wire" in 2006, HB). Featuring layers of synthesizers and long-winded, twisting song structures, the album featured few memorable melodies and little energy, with only the anthemic "Athena" and the terse "Eminence Front" making a lasting impression. [The compact disc reissue adds four bonus tracks to the original 12-song lineup, all of them live. These alternate versions of "Eminence Front," the title song, and "Cry If You Want," along with John Entwistle's "Dangerous," all come from performances at the Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Canada. Although no specific recording dates are given in the booklet, these bonus tracks offer far more lively versions of these songs than their original studio counterparts."
"Without Moon, the Who may have lacked the restless firepower that distinguished their earlier albums, but "Face Dances" had some of Pete Townshend's best, most incisive compositions since "Quadrophenia". "Don't Let Go the Coat" was one of his better odes to Meher Baba, "You Better You Bet" was a driving rocker, as was the rueful "Cache Cache," while "How Can You Do It Alone" was a solid ballad. While Townshend's songs were graceful and introspective, Roger Daltrey delivered them without any subtlety, rendering their power impotent. This 1997 reissue adds five tracks to the original nine-song lineup, including three tracks that didn't make the album's final cut (Townshend's "I Like Nightmares," "It's in You," and "Somebody Saved Me") and two live tracks, a rough jam of "How Can You Do It Alone" and John Entwistle's "The Quiet One".
