Hommage à Eberhard Weber (2015)

Drawn from jubilee concerts at Stuttgart's Theaterhaus in January 2015 to mark the 75th birthday of great German bassist Eberhard Weber, this is a remarkable live album incorporating big band arrangements of Weber compositions as well as striking new music from old friends Pat Metheny and Jan Garbarek. The concerts centered around 'Hommage', a specially commissioned 35-minute suite by Pat Metheny, with whom Weber had played and recorded back in the 1970s. Featuring Metheny, the SWR Big Band conducted by Helge Sunde, Gary Burton, bassist Scott Colley and Danny Gottlieb on drums, this extended composition is built upon recordings of solo improvisations by Weber, subtly orchestrated by the guitarist. The programme is opened by Jan Garbarek, Weber's associate of many years, with powerful and inventive soprano sax improvisations over loops of Weber's bass. Eberhard played with the Jan Garbarek Group from 1982 to 2007, and their essential compatibility is evident once again in these 'Résumé Variations'. (bron: ECM)

The Gershwin Connection by Dave Grusin and friends (1991)

"Because many of Dave Grusin's albums have been rather commercial and overproduced, it is often forgotten how excellent a pianist he could be. This CD features an enjoyable program of George and Ira Gershwin tunes played by a continually changing all-star lineup that includes the leader's piano, clarinetist Eddie Daniels, vibraphonist Gary Burton, altoist Eric Marienthal, trumpeter Sal Marquez, guitarist Lee Ritenour, bassist John Patitucci, drummer Dave Weckl and guest spots for pianist Chick Corea (who duets with Grusin on "'S Wonderful") and Don Grusin. A few of the numbers are given light funk rhythms and made to sound slightly "contemporary" (particularly "I've Got Plenty O' Nuthin'," which has an electric Ramsey Lewis-type groove), but overall, this is a very tasteful and respectful set." (Scott Yanow, Allmusic; 4 uit 5 sterren) Er schijnt een editie van deze CD te bestaan met een dik boekwerk, deze CD moet dat helaas missen: er is verder geen achtergrondinformatie bij aanwezig.

Duet (1978)

"Vibraphonist Gary Burton and pianist Chick Corea had first recorded together in 1972 for Crystal Silence (released under Corea's name). Six years later, they teamed up for renditions of two Steve Swallow tunes, plus Corea's lengthy "Duet Suite," four of his sketchy "Children's Songs," "Song to Gayle" and his classic "La Fiesta." This subtle set finds Burton and Corea consistently inspiring each other through melodic and very spontaneous improvising. Well worth a close listen". (Scott Yanow, Allmusic).

Bob Brookmeyer And Friends (1964)

"The young rhythm section (pianist Herbie Hancock, vibraphonist Gary Burton, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Elvin Jones) uplifts what would have been a fairly conventional (although high quality) bop date". (Scott Yanow, Allmusic).

Live At Montreux 1997 (2010)

Corea and Burton made a few classics for ECM and this release shows that even 25 years later, the magic is still there. "Renowned pianist Chick Corea is no stranger to the smooth sounds of vibraphone master Gary Burton, and when these two old friends took the stage of the Montreux Festival together in 1997 to celebrate the release of their joint effort Native Sense, the resulting concert proved a performance that fans of both artists would cherish for years to come. Though the set-list, which includes such songs as "Love Castle", "No Mystery", and "Rhumbata", is taken almost exclusively from the pair's Native Sense, a rousing rendition of Corea's classic "La Fiesta" brings the warm reunion to a fittingly rousing finale."-Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide [Eagle]

Stages Of A Long Journey (2007)

Jazz Winds From A New Direction

Jazz Winds From A New Direction (1998)

"Lots of folks in the country music streets of Nashville and the jazz canyons of New York were shaken up by this release, for country supersession man Hank Garland demonstrated that he could be just as persuasive rattling off swift, sophisticated bebop as he was playing thousands of country licks on the jukeboxes. Nothing fazes him, not even the tricky "Move," for Garland had technique to burn and a thoroughly modern harmonic approach. Not only that, a 17-year-old Boston kid named Gary Burton makes an astonishingly brash and assured recorded debut on vibes on this record, and bassist Joe Benjamin and the Dave Brubeck Quartet's unquenchably swinging drummer Joe Morello (who had toured with Garland when Garland was a teenager) are on hand from New York. This record seemed to promise great things ahead for Garland in the jazz world, a prospect cut sadly short later in 1961 by a crippling auto accident". (Richard S. Ginell, Allmusic).
