"By January 1973, Eric Clapton's career was going great guns as the result of compilations like History of Eric Clapton; the only problem was that Clapton himself was nursing a heroin addiction and hadn't been heard from since his August 1971 appearance at the concert for Bangladesh. The Who's Pete Townshend enticed Clapton out for another one-off concert appearance (in fact, there were two shows) at the Rainbow Theatre in London on January 13, 1973, and organized an all-star band to back him. It was an ensemble effort, as much a showcase for Steve Winwood -- who sang lead vocals on "Presence of the Lord" and Traffic's "Pearly Queen" -- as for the nominal star. But it demonstrated that the reclusive Clapton could still play, and that was welcome news. Esoteric Recordings rerelease of the 1978 solo album from former Traffic member Jim Capaldi. "The Contender was Jims first album for Polydor Records and the title track of the album featured in the film of the same name and featured the late Paul Kossoff (of Free and Back Street Crawler) on lead guitar. In America the album appeared in a different form under the title "Daughter Of The Night with a slightly different track listing which included additional material not released in the UK. These tracks are featured as bonus material on this expanded and remastered reissue. This Esoteric Recordings release has been newly remastered from the original master tapes and features a lavish illustrated booklet with new essay that restores the original album artwork. This 2012 Esoteric Recordings rerelease is the first ever CD edition of the 1980 album by former Traffic drummer-lyricist Jim Capaldi. Recorded after a hiatus which saw Jim living in Brazil, the album featured classic tracks such as "Man With No Country", the albums title track, a fabulous re-interpretation of the classic Traffic track "The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys" and "Going Home", co-written with his old Traffic pal Steve Winwood. Jim engaged the services of such musicians as Mel Collins (saxes & flute), Pete Bonas (guitar & bass) and Chris Parren (keyboards) for the sessions and the album was a welcome return to form. This Esoteric Recordings reissue has been remastered from the original master tapes and includes seven bonus tracks, including six previously unreleased recordings. Opvolger van 'Living On The Outside'. Degelijke AOR-rockliedjes, die het moeten hebben van Jims doorleefde voordracht. Opnieuw staat oude Traffic-maat Steve Winwood 'm bij op gitaar en toetsen. Verder met o.a. Gary Moore. De geprogrammeerd klinkende drums en soms wat kille synths maken de begeleiding ietwat klinisch.
