Something else (2017)

(Esmee de Gooyer, Lust For Life; 3 uit 5 sterren)\n\n"This album serves as both a great primer to the band's classics and a suitable greatest-hits collection. Like Tori Amos' orchestral reworkings on "Gold Dust", this release shines a fresh light on the Irish group's ten biggest singles, reinterpreted here with the string quartet from the Irish Chamber Orchestra. Dolores O'Riordan's voice remains in fine form, smooth and rich with maturity, backed by her steadfast bandmates Noel and Mike Hogan and Fergal Lawler. Their 1993 debut, "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?", is represented by arguably their best-known songs, "Linger" and "Dreams." The sweeping renditions reinvigorate both songs with more life than their original forms. On the flip side, the songs that had more bite in their original incarnations are toned down for "Something Else", creating an equally alluring angle to the songwriting. Their 1994 alt-rock standard "Zombie" loses its rage, but becomes the somber lament that, deep down, it always was." (Neil Z. Yeung, Allmusic; 4 uit 5 sterren)

MTV Unplugged (2025)

"Recorded on Valentine's Day 1995, The Cranberries' MTV Unplugged set came at a time when they had cemented their mainstream presence with the help of their sophomore album "No Need To Argue" and the enduring, chart-topping smash "Zombie." That song - transformed into a spine-tingling, haunted dirge that is somehow even more powerful than the original - is joined by other recognizable tracks from No Need ("Ode To My Family," "Dreaming My Dreams," "Empty," and the title track), as well as the big hit from their breakthrough debut "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? ("Linger"). Standout moments include the non-album-era cut "Yesterday's Gone," as well as the debuts of "Free To Decide" and "I'm Still Remembering," which would both land on their third LP, To the Faithful Departed. Following Dolores O'Riordan's passing in 2018, the wealth of material that came from the vaults remained generous and worthwhile; this special set is one of the highlights."
