These selections are perfectly suited for Fitzgerald's voice and her romantic sensibility; they are happy, occasionally sad, and full of swinging rhythm. A few of these songs -- "Cheek to Cheek," "Puttin' on the Ritz," and "Blue Skies" -- will be most familiar; others are as memorable but perhaps less known. Choices like "Isn't This a Lovely Day?" feature everything a listener would want in a song: intelligent lyrics, memorable melodies, and a strong emotional center. "Op 18 februari 1961 was het Amsterdamse Concertgebouw weer eens een Jazz Philharmonic. Impresario Norman Granz had het afgehuurd voor de twee raspaarden uit zijn stal: pianist Oscar Peterson (dat concert is ook door Fondamenta op CD uitgebracht - HB) en zangeres Ella Fitzgerald. In april 2017 bracht het Nederlands Jazz Archief al een CD uit met concerten die zij in 1957 en 1960 in Amsterdam gaf ("s Wonderful"). Op "Mack The Knife" na brengt ze in 1961 een volledig nieuwe set. Fitzgerald gaf op de bühne altijd alles. Zo ook hier. De songs kregen elk de vereiste intensiteit, zoals de ballad "How Long Has This Been Going On". Ook "My Funny Valentine" staat op het programma. Als waarschuwing vooraf zegt ze dat ze het deze avond anders zingt: bijna teder. Net als het daaropvolgende "I Got A Crush On You". De stemming wordt wat uitbundiger vanaf "Lorelei".
