"It’s spectacularly unspectacular, a dependable album from an artist who knows what he’s good at and whose songwriting feels rooted in a genuinely optimistic world-view. That isn’t to say Horan doesn’t have his demons. The big talking point is its closing tune, a thoughtful, melancholic farewell to his late bandmate Liam Payne, who died in 2024. It’s a beautifully vulnerable tribute from Horan, who saw Payne just a few weeks before his death. Elsewhere, the tone is one of restrained bubbliness. Horan has named Damien Rice as an inspiration for "Dinner Party". But other influences are even clearer. The spirit of Death Cab for Cutie and Tame Impala – indie bands who don’t mind shifting a few units – shimmers through the restrained alt-pop of "Tastes So Good" and the title track. Upbeat pop is where Horan is in his element. "Fighting Over Nothing" surfs on swooping soft-rock guitars, while "Boys Are Fun" is an agreeable 1970s-inflected homage to Harry Nilsson and Billy Joel." "Toen Niall Horan in 2020 zijn tweede studioalbum genaamd "Heartbreak Weather" uitbracht, was het idee om hier de wereld mee rond te touren. Dit plan werd echter al vrij snel van de tafel geveegd wegens de uitbraak van het coronavirus. En dus zat er maar één ding op voor die Ier: nog meer muziek gaan maken. Deze isolatie heeft uiteindeljik geresulteerd in het frisse "The Show": een dertig minuten durende frisse zomerbries. Het derde studioalbum van Niall Horan is een prettige balans tussen zwoele en energieke nummers. De luisteraar wordt warm gemaakt met licht energieke opwarmers. Hierna volgt het energieke hoofdprogramma. De toegift bestaat uit driee nummers die een stuk kleiner van aard zijn en dit resulteert in een prettig een-op-een moment. De Ier had een aantal jaar om écht de tijd te nemen voor dit album en dat is dan ook terug te horen. "The Show" is zonder twijfel het beste wat Horan tot nu toe heeft laten horen en doet verlangen naar meer." (Nieuweplaat.nl; waardering 8.5)
