Recording of the only concert ever performed by Steve Jansen/Richard Barbieri, from 1st November 1996. Performing songs from the duos "Stone To Flesh", "Stories Across Borders" and "Beginning To Melt" albums, the show was recorded at the Melkweg, Amsterdam, as part of the famous Dutch Magazine OORs 25th anniversary celebration. Jansen and Barbieri were joined on stage by Mick Karn and Steven Wilson. Although the concert wasnt intentionally recorded for release, after hearing back the direct line stereo mix, Jansen and Barbieri decided it contained elements that brought the studio versions to life in a unique way. There were no options to alter anything from the 1996 mix, but pleased with the recording, the duo released it as a limited edition run of 500 cassettes in the late 1990s. "Multi-instrumentalist Mick Karn's first solo album reveals the significant degree to which Japan's sound was shaped by his bass playing. The presence of Japan drummer Steve Jansen and keyboardist Richard Barbieri, combined with Karn's own singing style (which owes a heavy debt to former bandmate David Sylvian), only strengthens the impression that this is a Japan album in all but name. While Karn plays various woodwinds and keyboards as well as bass on "Titles", it is his amazingly agile and creative fretless bass playing that holds center stage, even when he is singing. "Saviour, Are You With Me?" is rather unusual: a traditional gospel song rearranged in a somewhat blocky funk setting. Other tracks offer hints of reggae, North African modalism, and ambient experimentalism. Zeer relaxte sfeerplaat van de ex-bassist van Japan. Verstilder dan z'n werk met Jansen/Barbieri/Karn, hoewel de muziek verwant is (drummer Steve Jansen is op de meeste tracks te horen). Geluidssculpturen met prominent 's mans fretloze bas.
Op dit eerste album op zijn eigen Mick Karn Records is het kenmerkende swingende fretloze basspel natuurlijk weer te horen, zij het minder vaak dan je zou verwachten. Karn verkent enthousiast de mogelijkheden van allerhande elektronica in immer fascinerende geluidssculpturen, naast enkele haast triphop-achtige progressieve popsongs. "Ondanks alle muzikaal-antropologische verkenningen die David Sylvian na het uiteenvallen van Japan in zijn eentje zou ondernemen, is diens collega Mick Karn de grootste wereldburger gebleken. Ook op dit zevende solo-album van deze ex-Japan bassist, treffen we weer een cosmopolitische wildgroei aan genres: Motown-ritmes, etnische kruidenmix, hiphop, jazz, techno-impulsen, gospel en dat soms in één en hetzelfde nummer! Soort van triphop van de Japanner Hanno, samen met de briljante ex-Japan-bassist Karn. Zoals te verwachten sluiten de buikdansende baslijnen van de Engelsman naadloos aan op de ambient-sferen-met-moderne-dansritmes van de Japanner.
Minder verstild dan 'Each Eye A Path' en meer aansluitend op de sfeer van bijv. 'Bestial Cluster', al doet hij op deze plaat alles zelf. Veel donkere en lage geluiden, niet alleen uit z'n fretloze bas, maar ook uit allerhande elektronica.
