Concertregistratie uit 1985, uit de tijd van het album "Night". Abercrombie, zelf (zeker in die tijd) een uiterst creatief en avontuurlijk gitarist, had toen een topbezetting om zich heen: met saxofonist Michael Brecker en vurige ritmesectie Marc Johnson en Peter Erskine maakt hij moderne jazz met een lichte hang naar fusion en jazzrock. Opnametechnisch heeft de DVD qua beeld en geluid de kwaliteit van TV-opnamen uit de jaren '80: zeer acceptabel, maar zeker niet uitmuntend.
Box met vier albums van dit jazztrio, uit de jaren 1993-1999. In 2017 werd Peter Erskine de Edison Jazz toegekend in de categorie 'Het Document' voor deze set: "...laat een prachtig tijdsbeeld zien van één van de toonaangevende jazztrios op het prominente Duitse kwaliteitsjazzlabel ECM, bekend van grootheden als Keith Jarrett, Jan Garbarek en Kenny Wheeler, musici waarmee respectievelijk Danielsson en Erskine ook in andere formaties opnamen. Wheeler bracht enkele composities in, evenals Vince Mendoza. De box bevat één standard van Cole Porter. Daarnaast leverde alle drie de musici composities voor het trio, waarvan de meeste afkomstig waren van de hand van pianist John Taylor. Opmerkelijk aan dit pianotrio is dat de bandleider in tegenstelling tot wat meestal gebruikelijk is niet de pianist, maar drummer Peter Erskine is. Optreden uit 1982 met Pastorius' 'Word Of Mouth Small Band'. Hoewel de DVD slecht gedocumenteerd is, is de beeld- en geluidskwaliteit uitstekend (het wel is een major-labelrelease). Een mooie gelegenheid om Pastorius' bijzondere basgitaarspel te bewonderen, al treedt hij niet zo heel vaak op de voorgrond. Veel soloruimte wordt overgelaten aan Brecker (t), Mintzer (ts) en de virtuoze steeldrumcapriolen van Othello Molineaux.
Album uit 1995, volgens Allmusic het beste solo-album van de ondermeer van Steps (Ahead) bekende vibrafonist.. Mike Manieri (1938) speelde op zijn 14-de al vibrafoon. Hij is er uitermate goed ingeslaagd de composities van componisten die je niet snel op jazzplaten geïnterpreteerd ziet, o.a. Leonard Bernstein en Samuel Barber, maar ook Frank Zappa, een totaal andere dimensie te geven. Daarnaast staat er eigen werk op en dragen de bandleden alhier, zoals saxofonist Joe Lovano en drummer Peter Erskine, thema's aan.

"In 1998, the DAddario Company hired 4 respected jazz veterans Bob Mintzer (ts), John Abercrombie (el. g), John Patitucci (b) and Peter Erskine (d) to conduct some concerts/clinics together. Their final engagement was recorded. The sound is impeccable on this 48-track digital recording, and the music weaves many textures, reflecting the talent and experience of exemplary jazzers. The music is loose but sophisticated, falling somewhere between free fusion and modern mainstream jazz. While the solos are sometimes longer than youd hear at a typical club performance, the playing is highly accomplished. Each musician contributes a pair of tunes, with Abercrombies offerings the only pieces never recorded elsewhere. Despite the impromptu feel, the four coordinate well together. Abercrombies free playing is a nice complement to Minters straight-ahead blowing, and Patittuci and Erskine show why they're regarded as two of the most accomplished players on their respective instruments."
