"The Muradian Ensemble has the kind of ultra-polished, almost epic folk sound that you'd expect from a Soviet style national folk ensemble but that's not necessarily a bad thing. This recording may not have the feel of sitting on a back porch in Yerevan listening to Armenian grandparents playing old folk tunes but it is definitely an engaging listen and well worth checking out if you like Eastern European or Middle Eastern folk music." Het boekje geeft uitleg over de gebruikte tradionele instrumenten." (Rateyourmusic)
The duduk is a wind instrument peculiar to Armenia. It is presented by Djivan Gasparian, one of the greatest masters of this beautiful instrument, who played it in films such as “The Last Temptation of Christ” and “Gladiator”, and the duduk virtuosi Sergei Karapetian and Mkrtich Malkhasian. The music has a haunting, meditative quality, on some pieces accompanied by a dool (drum). (ARC Music)
