"Imam Baildi is the name of a popular Turkish / Mediterranean dish, a stuffed eggplant with onion, garlic, tomato and olive oil. A Greek band also calls itself this in the hope that its music will be appreciated by a wide and young audience. The founders of the eight-piece band, brothers Lysandros and Orestis Falireas, draw inspiration from their father's archive. He ran a Greek record company specializing in rembetiko and owned a record store in Athens. The music therefore mixes Greek rembetiko from the 1940s-1960s with Turkish and Balkan music, electro swing, hip-hop, drum & bass and mambo. This modern sound is very suitable for playing on the dance floor in trendy clubs. Imam Baildi thus fits in the list of other hip mestizo / crossover bands such as Ojos de Brujo and Gogol Bordello and is a welcome guest at European festivals." (Muziekweb)
