De mis Missa Omnium Sanctorum werd in 2014 op het Festival Oude Muziek in Utrecht uitgevoerd, zij het door een ander ensemble. Deze fraai verzorgde Tsjechische CD-uitgave verscheen drie jaar eerder. Het is de laatste mis die Zelenka componeerde, in 1741. Op CD is deze gecombineerd met twee korte andere werken, die hier hun wereldpremière op CD beleven. In beiden is er een hoofdrol voor de countertenor, in dit geval Kai Wessel.

En dan te bedenken dat in de achttiende eeuw de componist juist alom werd geprezen om zijn originele invallen en fascinerende oeuvre, waaronder niet door de minsten: zo gaven componisten al Telemann en Bach hoog op van Zelenka's componeerkunst. Maar hoe inventief ook het contrapunt, hoe moedig ook de harmonische wendingen en zijn gevoel voor melodische ontwikkeling: na zijn dood in 1745 verdween zijn werk geleidelijk aan in de poel van het onbekende en onbeminde." "Met zijn mis opgedragen aan alle heiligen zette Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679-1745) een punt achter zijn lange componistencarrière. Dat was niet helemaal de bedoeling, Zelenka had op dat moment nog plannen tot het componeren van zes missen. De productie stokte halverwege. Maar wat een slotakkoord. Dit stuk is een wervelstorm, waarin Bach-achtig contrapunt, opwindende koorpassages, stevige ritmes en prachtige solo's elkaar afwisselen. Een mis als een rollercoaster; een die eigenlijk alles heeft - en dat binnen iets meer dan 50 minuten. (...) LaBarocca heeft de enorme rijkdom van het Omnium Sanctorum aangegrepen om het stuk in al zijn uitersten te ontsluiten. Toegegeven, Zelenka, 'de katholieke Bach', heeft het knap bedacht. These pieces are, without question, the finest works of their type produced during the Baroque period. The tunes are ear-catching, the rhythmic complexities yearsindeed centuriesahead of their time, and the harmonies utterly personal and expressive. They are difficult to perform: just listen to the bassoon in Sonata No. 5, and youll get the idea. For this reason, its not surprising that Holliger wanted to take another shot at music that he has lived with for nearly 40 years, and his performances (which include several members of his original Archiv team) are an improvement in every way. He and his partners play with such ease and sovereign command, and are so beautifully recorded, that this set easily becomes the reference edition for this marvelous music. Essential."
"In 1733 dong Zelenka mee naar de post van tweede Kapellmeister aan het hof van de keurvorst van Saksen. Er moest in Dresden niet alleen kerkmuziek klinken maar ook opera. Napolitaans was in de mode. Net de 8 Italiaanse aria's (5 voor sopraan, 2 voor alt en 1 voor bas) die hij instuurde viste Zelenka helaas achter het net. Tot op heden zijn musicologen en musici verbaasd waarom het hem met dit fantastische repertoire niet gelukt is. Er is wel iets van te begrijpen. Niet al zijn teksten beantwoordden aan de eisen die men rond 1730 aan Italiaanse opera stelde. Ook het Italiaans was hem vreemd; niet alle klemtonen waren goed gelegd. 300 jaar later halen we over deze bezwaren graag de schouders op. Zelenka's muziek is een wonder van gratie. Ook de uitvoerenden zijn niet genoeg te loven. De sopraansoli van de reine Blazikova zijn betoverend. Haar klank is die van een zachte hobo. "Zelenka is an extraordinarily intriguing figure: he composed music that, although cast in the standard idiom of the time and place, has a curious wilfulness - the lines take odd twists, the modulations veer off in strange directions, the counterpoint moves at unpredictable angles, the phrase lengths refuse to follow the expected patterns. It makes the music constantly fascinating. The opening bar of the Litanyis a good example: a big C major chord - and then a powerful G sharp rings Out in the middle of it; no one else did that sort of thing. But the most deeply felt music here is perhaps in the Officium Defunctorum: the 3 lessons are all differently scored, one with soprano and a cool, soft chalumeau, the next for tenor with oboes, the last for bass with the traditional elegiac recorders. With King's polished choir and orchestra, his usual springy rhythms and his sensitivity equally to shades of texture and shades of musical meaning, Zelenka's curious music could scarcely have better advocacy."
