"An excellent collaboration of the Nancy Wilson voice with the Cannonball Adderley alto sax from the early '60s. While this 1961 recording was the first time Wilson was with Adderley in the studio, it was not the first time they had worked together. After singing with Rusty Bryant's band, Wilson had worked with Adderley in Columbus, OH. (It was there that Adderley encouraged her to go to N.Y.C. to do some recording, eventually leading to this session.) Not entirely a vocal album, five of the 12 cuts are instrumentals. A highlight of the album is the gentle cornet playing of Nat Adderley behind Wilson, especially on "Save Your Love for Me" and on "The Old Country." Cannonball Adderley's swinging, boppish sax is heard to excellent effect throughout. Joe Zawinul's work behind Wilson on "The Masquerade Is Over" demonstrates that he is a talented, sensitive accompanist. Zawinul in fact achieves a rare thing: He manages to get his stacks of electronics to swing like mad in these pan-global grooves that pick up where WR was about to leave off. "Waiting for the Rain" generates tension and anticipation, while "Zeebop" is a pure adrenaline. And "Carnivalito" is a total gas, a percolating, outrageously joyous evocation of a carnival that would put the best percussionists out of business if Zawinul's swinging talent could be bottled and sold. "Op North Sea 2007 moest Joe Zawinul per rolstoel van en naar heet podium worden vervoerd. Terminale huidkanker had zijn imposante postuur toen al doen verschrompelen tot een schaduw van weleer. 2 Onderling zeer verschillende vroege solo-albums van de Oostenrijkse toetsenist op één CD. "The Rise And Fall..." uit 1968 koppelt een jazzcombo aan een strijkkwartet. Op sommige momenten mengt dit geheel tot een impressionistische jazz/klassiek-crossover (ofwel 'third stream'), op andere momenten neigt de muziek naar de vroege jazzrock van Miles Davis' "In A Silent Way" (mét inderdaad ook Zawinul). "Money..." is met afgemeten blazersthema's en haast groovende ritmes een hardbop-album met souljazz-trekjes.
