Vroege opnamen van de Oostenrijkse pianist Alfred Brendel uit de jaren 1955-1975. De 35 CD-box werd uitgebracht in 2008, het jaar waarin de meesterpianist afscheid nam van het podium. De betiteling "solo-recordings" is misleidend, want de box bevat ook opnamen van concerten met orkestbegeleiding. "This set is far from perfect, and it most definitely does not represent the finished article: instead it shows us the evolution of a genius, an artist still developing his interpretations of these great works. Brendel nam deze werken enkele keren in zijn carrière op. Deze CD bevat opnamen uit 1972 en 1974. Ze vormen de helft van de opnamen die in 1997 op de Philips-Duo-serie-titel "The complete Impromptus" zouden terechtkomen (dezelfde opnamen dus). Als u die dubbel-CD leent, is dit deeltje dus overbodig. Maar om deze 'Alfred Brendel Collection'-serie volledig te houden hebben we deze CD behouden.
