"Inner Circle werd opgericht in het begin van de jaren zeventig van de 20e eeuw door de broers Ian en Roger Lewis, Stephen Cooe, Richard Daley en Michael Cooper. Toen zanger Jacob Miller bij Inner Circle kwam, ontstonden de eerste successen: Music machine en Mary Mary. Eind jaren zeventig was Jacob Miller op Jamaica zelfs populairder dan Bob Marley. In maart 1980 kwam Jacob Miller echter om bij een auto-ongeluk, waarna de band uiteenviel. Alleen de gebroeders Lewis bleven over met Bernard Harvey. In 1987 kwam Inner Circle met een nieuw album, nadat zanger Carlton Coffey bij de groep was gekomen. Niet veel later sloten ook Lance Hall (drums) en Lester Adderley (gitaar) zich aan en tekende Inner Circle een platencontract bij WEA/Metronome. In 1992 werd hun single Sweat (A La La La La Long) een internationale hit. De opvolger Bad Boys werd een bescheiden hitje, maar zou wel de leadermuziek van de Amerikaanse realityserie Cops worden." One Way (1987)

"The first half of "One Way" contains of pleasant upbeat club lite with just enough roots at the songs' cores to keep their old fans mildly interested. Still, saxophonist Dr. J adds punch to "Front and Center," while the generous nods to pop's past and music's present fashion will please younger ears. The themes are equally featherweight: unity, reggae's universal appeal, love, and soft culture are the flavors of the day. Then "Massive" kicks in, and the whole atmosphere of the set shifts, as Inner Circle reinvents the classic "Slaving" rhythm. "Bad Boys" is even more memorable, a scorching warning to the raggamuffins led by Ian Lewis' threatening bass and Lancelot Hall's thumping beats. "Champion" is even more lethal and several megatons heavier, while the impassioned "Keep the Faith" is a mix of lightness and heft, African tinges, and Jamaican riffs. So, the title is inaccurate, since "One Way" moves in two entirely different directions." (Jo-Anne Greene, Allmusic)
