CD-uitgave uit 1994 van LP uit 1966. Daarop vinden we veldopnamen, die antropoloog A.L. Lloyd in 1954 en 1963 maakte. Hij probeert zoveel mogelijk aspecten van Bulgaarse volksmuziek aan de orde te laten komen. Zoals bijvoorbeeld de dansorkesten die met speels gemak in de meest ingewikkelde maatsoorten spelen. De bijzondere samenzang van dames met hun scherpe, kelige manier van zingen. Volgens Lloyd ligt in deze waarschinijk eeuwenoude stijl misschien wel de geboorte van polyfone zang besloten. Of aangrijpende ballades van geïmmigreerde bevolkingsgroepen. Alle opnamen worden uitvoerig toegelicht door Lloyd in het boekwerkje.
CD vol authentieke opnamen, die door Ed Tervooren gedraaid werden tijdens zijn lezing over Macedonië, zaterdag 18 februari 2012. Hij gebruikte juist deze CD, omdat hierop bijzonder virtouze musici te horen zijn, die ongelooflijk complexe dansritmes laten horen. Traditionele Bulgaarse volksmuziek, veelal in hoge tempi en in haast bizare maatsoorten en onnavolgbaar virtuoos gespeeld. Het is vaak dansmuziek, maar je zult je benen haast breken. De stukken zijn gegroepeerd met steeds twee stukken met eenzelfde solist: op klarinet, accordeon, viool en trompet.

Deze compilatie bevat niet de meest authentieke Macedonische muziek, maar juist meer populaire, maar wel folklorische muziek, veelal met haast onnavolgbare dansritmiek. De uitvoeringen zijn deels op authentiek instrumentarium, deels op moderne instrumenten.
"Het grootste festival voor blaasorkesten ter wereld vindt elke zomer plaats in Servië. Meer dan een half miljoen mensen volgen bij Guca het driedaags evenement dat culmineert in de strijd om de gouden trompet; een competitie met soms wel 400 orkesten. De Albanezen van Kosovo met hun traditionele folk. Waarin te horen is dat Kosovo deel uit maakt van de Balkan met zijn Turkse invloeden, dicht bij Griekenland ligt en vooral verwant is aan het buurland Albanië. Op dit album komen alle aspecten van die traditionele folk aan bod. (GR Muziekbank)
