In any respected artist s career, there lies a milestone and September 1978 revealed an energy and aura in Bruce Springsteen that truly reflected that. In 1984 en 1985 was The Boss niet uit de hitparade weg te slaan met een flinke succesnummers van dit album: het titelnummer, "Dancing In The Dark", "Glory Days", "My Hometown" en "I'm On Fire". Hij wordt begeleid door z'n E Street Band, met o.a. gitarist "Little" Steve Van Zandt, drummer Max Weinberg, toetsenist Roy Bittan en saxofonist Clarence Clemmons.
Zeer uitgebreide box met 3 CDs en 3 DVDs. CD1 bevat een remaster van "Darkness On The Edge Of Town". CD2 en CD3 bevatten het album "The Promise" met 21 tracks die zijn opgenomen in de periode tussen "Born To Run" en "Darkness On The Edge Of Town". Deze tracks, waaronder via anderen bekend geworden songs als "Fire" en "Because The Night" hadden volgens Springsteen zelf eigenlijk destijds al op een album moeten verschijnen. Op DVD1 staat de documentaire The Promise: The Making Of The Darkness On The Edge Of Town, vol nooit eerder vertoond beeldmateriaal. DVD2 bevat een integrale uitvoering uit 2009 van "Darkness On The Edge Of Town" in een theater zonder publiek plus niet eerder uitgebracht materiaal uit de Thrill Hill Vault. DVD 3 bevat de live registratie 'Houston 78 Bootleg House Cut'. Het geheel gaat vergezeld van een 80-pagina tellende boekwerk, met o.a. kopieën van Springsteens originele notitieboeken, met bijv. niet gebruikte songtekstfragmenten plus een nieuw geschreven essay van Springsteen.
"Bruce had signed a recording deal in mid-72 and had been working on his debut since. "Greetings From Asbury Park" saw the light of day in early '73, and within the week Bruce, with a little help from three of the soon to be named East Street Band, were performing their first ever radio broadcast, aired on Boston's WBCN FM. A quite remarkable performance ensued with Bruce and the boys in excellent humour and fine form as they played a terrific set, although remarkably including just one cut from "Greetings...". The show was an intimate affair without an audience but gave listeners their first glimpse into Springsteen's infectious personality, enormous enthusiasm and unique sense of humour. The second show on this disc is Bruce's very first broadcast from the Main Point venue in Bryn Mawr, just outside Philadelphia. This April 1973 set differs widely from the first, as the full band (incl. drummer Vini Lopez) rock out, and comparisons with the largely acoustic Boston broadcast remain fascinating." (Leftfield)
