Dit is de eerste complete uitgave van het concert dat op 28 augustus 1962 in het Sylvan Theatre bij het Washington Monument werd gehouden. Het was een bedankje naar studenten die tijdens de toen aflopende vakantie in Washington hadden gewerkt. Eerder die dag had president Kennedy de studenten al toegesproken. Kennedy was dus niet bij het concert. Het concert opent met een set door Dave Brubeck en zijn kwartet, met o.a. het toen nog vrij recente "Take Five". Dan volgt een set van Bennett met zijn eigen combo, die afsluit met zijn grote hit "I Left My Heart In San Francisco". De presentator van de avond wijdt er nog een grap aan: 'deze man is een medisch wonder: hij heeft z'n hart in San Francisco achtergelaten!'. Dan volgt het setje dat deze CD heel speciaal maakt: Bennett met Brubecks kwartet met grotendeels ongerepeteerd materiaal. Alleen "That Old Black Magic" werd al eens uitgebracht. Toen het duo pas na 47 jaar voor een tweede keer samen optrad, was dat dan ook de song die een late reprise kreeg.

Eerste Peterson-album voor het Duitse MPS-label. "In the early '60s Oscar Peterson befriended producer Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer, who recorded Peterson on a number of occasions in his private studio while the veteran pianist was still signed to Verve. These earliest sessions feature Peterson with Ray Brown (b) and Ed Thigpen (d) circa 1963 and 1964. Before an audience invited by the producer, the trio begins with a midtempo "At Long Last Love," followed by a gently swinging treatment of Billy Taylor's infrequently performed "Easy Walker" and an understated interpretation of "Tin Tin Deo." Peterson's lyricism is at its peak in his arrangements of "I've Got a Crush On You" and "A Foggy Day." But it is the trio's extended and intricate workout of "Like Someone in Love," clocking in at just over 11 minutes, that leaves the most lasting impression. Not only is Peterson extremely reserved, but Brown's first-rate solo and Thigpen's delicate brushwork help to make this track a masterpiece." (Ken Dryden, Allmusic)

The musicians involved in the project are Anders Jormin, a poetic bassist who has been accompanying him since the mid ‘80s, and Jon Fält, a sensitive drummer who first joined them in 2008 for the album "Cantando" (ECM). Stenson, who played with legendary saxophonists Charles Lloyd and Jan Garbarek as well as with trumpeters Don Cherry and Tomasz Stanko, doesn’t hide the classical intonation on Bäck’s “Communion Psalm”, touching our souls with an introspective sense of freedom. He took two risks with the album - his five original compositions covered more diverse stylistic ground than his debut, and he assembled a large septet for the sessions; the band features such stellar musicians as Donald Byrd (t), Hank Mobley (ts), Tony Williams (d), Grant Green (g), Chuck Israels (b), and Grachan Moncur III (tmb). It's a rare occasion that all musicians appear on the same track, which speaks well for the pianist's arranging capabilities. Hancock knows how to get the best out of his songs and musicians, which is one of the reasons why "My Point of View" is a captivating listen. The other is the sheer musicality of the album. Hard bop remains the foundation for Hancock's music, but he explores its limitations, finding its soulful side, its probing, adventurous leanings and its ballad side. "This expansive live release finds pianist Corea working with Christian McBride (b) and Brian Blade (d), and the three have an uncanny connection, filling space with gorgeous and subtle phrasings, gliding through all manner of styles with a seemingly effortless elegance and freshness. The 3CD set was recorded live at various places around the world, but has a remarkable sonic coherency. It might be too much to call it a summation of Corea's legacy, but it does have the slight feel of a retrospective. The band revisits classic Corea compositions like "Spain" and covering several tunes from the Great American Songbook, a couple of Thelonious Monk tunes, a previously unissued Corea composition, the half-hour "Piano Sonata: The Moon," where the trio shows its ability to move between scored and improvised sections with breathtaking ease, and even a take on Russian composer Scriabin's "Op. 11 No. 9" that manages to breathe and flow without sounding like a forced fusion." "Velvet" is opgenomen in zijn huistheater The Velvet Room, de kleinste concertzaal van Nederland met 18 plaatsen, waarin de pianist eens per maand een concert geeft. De plaat bevat 16 nummers, 16 miniatuurtjes waarin de meesterpianist ons steeds meeneemt op een avontuurlijke reis. Michiel schreef 14 nieuwe composities voor dit album en vulde dit aan met "Ode Aan Johan In C", zijn ode aan Johan Cruyff, die hij tijdens het Sportgala van 2016 samen met Frank Rijkaard verzorgde, volgens velen hét hoogtepunt van die avond. Daarnaast speelt hij een bloedmooie uitvoering van Leonard Cohens "Hallelujah". Borstlap zal met de muziek van dit nieuwe album uitgebreid door het land toeren, dus kijk op zijn site of hij ook bij jou in de buurt komt, want het beloven hele bijzondere concerten te worden." Plays Bach Encore! (1992)

Geremasterde heruitgave uit 2007 van dubbel-album uit 1992. Op de eerste schijf doet de Franse, in 1934 geboren pianist waar hij al sinds de laten jaren '50 beroemd om is: het spelen van subtiel-swingende jazzbewerkingen van Bach-composities. In trio-opstelling speelt hij de concerten BWV 1056 en BWV 1060, de partita BWV 825 en de fuga BWV 578. CD2 valt buiten dit concept, want deze bevat eigen Loussier-composities voor symfonie-orkest. Het Prague Kammer Orchestra (PKO) met soloviolist Jean Pierre Wallez en percussionist André Arpino speelt zijn Concert voor Viool en Percussie, vol knipogen naar Piazzolla's klassieke tangomuziek en door de aard van de percussiepartij toch ook naar jazz. Dan volgen het orkeststuk Tableux vénitiens en een Trompetconcert met Guy Touvron als solist.

"Het album "Bill Evans: At The Montreux Jazz Festival", vastgelegd op 15 juni 1968 en in 1997 was tot vorig jaar het enige audiodocument van het sensationele monsterverbond van pianist Bill Evans met bassist Eddie Gomez en drummer Jack DeJohnette, totdat Resonance Records ons in 2016 op het, zo bleek later, zeer terecht prijswinnende "Some Other Time: The Lost Sessions From The Black Forrest" trakteerde, slechts vijf dagen later vastgelegd in de beroemde MPS Studios in Villingen, Duitsland. Dit welhaast perfecte kwaliteitsproduct wordt heden echter nog overtroffen met "The Hilversum Concert", wéér twee dagen later opgenomen (22 juni 1968) in VARA Studio 8 voor het radioprogramma Jazz In Actie. Het is vastgelegd met apparatuur van op dat moment het hoogst mogelijke niveau en dit is daardoor waarschijnlijk audiofielen opgelet! mogelijk de best klinkende live-opname van Bill Evans. The Köln Concert (complete versie) (1975)

Totnogtoe vond u bij ons een hele vroege CD-versie van dit oorspronkelijk op 2 LP's verschenen concert uit 1975. En daarop ontbrak vreemd genoeg het laatste deel (hoewel het er makkelijk bijop past). Die fout is bij deze hersteld, want dit is een latere versie met de complete dubbel-LP. Het is verreweg het beroemdste album van de veelzijdige pianist, die hiermee uitgroeide tot één van DE iconen der moderne jazz. Dit solo-concert is volledig geïmproviseerd. Free jazz dus in feite. Veel mensen denken dan aan wild gebeuk en aan experimentele, a-melodieuze grensverkenningen. Niets van dat al hier. Jarrett speelt dan misschien wat 'm invalt, maar het resultaat is verrassend toegankelijk, lyrisch en warm. En eigenlijk heel songmatig. De ene melodieuze vondst buitelt over de ander. Je kunt 't net zo goed klassiek als jazz noemen - en soms misschien zelfs pop. Dat gaat vooral op voor Part IIc, het slotstuk in kwestie dat de eerste CD-uitgave ontbeerde: in feite een heel lief instrumentaal liedje.
